VENUES + Music & Arts Culture
Minneapolis - Minneapolis is home to a wide selection of live music both in venues and in coordination with the local parks. Larger events are regularly scheduled in the area, a few of which are Warped Tour, Soundset, and the Twin Cities Jazz Festival. Local venues are another focal point of the music scene in Minneapolis, tailoring to more specified consumer tastes within the city as a whole.
Venues
- First Avenue & 7th Street Entry - Hosting a variety of genres, First Avenue & 7th Street Entry has two rooms, one with 1500 capacity and the other with 250.
- Varsity Theater - One of the most diverse venues in Minneapolis, the Varsity Theater books everything from Baroque recitals to psychedelic-folk music.
- The Cabooze - The Cabooze is a great venue to find something new in the Minneapolis area. They book acts from all genres, and have a great mix of lesser and better known acts, all of which is good music.
- The Triple Rock Social Club - The Triple Rock Social Club is a great 18+ venue for Alt/Rock/Metal fans to gather.
- 331 Club - The 331 Club is known for diverse music, in an intimate setting, with great food. As an added bonus, there is no cover charge.
- Fine Line Music Cafe - Fine Line Music Cafe has great range, and even hosts progressive metal bands, like Animals as Leaders
- Nomad World Pub - Mostly hosting energetic genres like EDM, punk, and rock and roll, the Nomad World Club a great atmosphere, and also hosts trivia often on non-music nights.
- Lees Liquor Lounge - Generally home to Rock and Blues, Lees Liquor Lounge solidly books good acts, and on rare occasion branch out to Hip-Hop and Jazz.
St. Paul - The music scene in St. Paul has recently revitalized, and the city is becoming almost as big a cultural hub as its twin, Minneapolis. St. Paul is known for the having scenes in both modern music genres and classical music and arts. The music availability and Mayor Chris Coleman's Year of Music Campaign make a powerful combo unit to bolster the scene even further in the coming years.
Venues
- Vieux Carrè - A newly opened venue, The Vieux Carrè is the sister of the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis. As you may guess, they also specialize booking jazz performances, and are just gaining popularity.
- The Turf Club - The Turf Club hosts lots of original music from local bands, but they have also found a niche with cover artists, booking multiple artists for a night devoted to covering a single, well-known act.
- Amsterdam Bar & Hall - Another venue with a sister location in Minneapolis, Amsterdam Bar & Grill books many local hip-hop acts, including Dizzy Fae, a St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Arts graduate.
- Sweet 317 - An intimate space that hosts free monthly shows, the Sweet 317 has housed jazz, brass bands, mariachi, singer-songwriter, and even Indian classical music.
